MAMA is a series of artworks referring to a mother-daughter relationship through the lens of loss.

These works are based on the duality of that bond; profound love and immense sorrow. Alkini aims to express the incomplete restoration of moments and images of childhood time and space.

 Chair is an installation referring to absence, through a nonresponsive presence. The inanimate readymade objects; chair with missing seat, dress and oxygen tank, are directly associated to the absent figure. They are meant to embody a cause and effect dipole. The missing part of the chair makes it impossible for anybody else to take a sit. The person sitting there vanished, leaving their belongings and their destined chair behind.

 Hanger is utilizing the meaning of vulnerability caused by the absence of a protecting figure. The mother’s body is presented as a protective garment. Instead of it being hung, the hanger extends from the garment, laying emphasis on the absence of the actual figure.

 Dress is a piece linked to the concept of trauma and memory. Several elements, emotions or shared moments of childhood were used as symbols and stitched together to form a dress. The process of stitching is an act of restoration and an expression of hope for emotional redemption.
